Residential Floor Maintenance

Protect your Floor:
Place throw rugs in front of sinks in your kitchen and any doors leading to the outside where heavy traffic and tracking occurs. However, do not do this until at least two weeks aftr the finish has been applied. Chairs, and any other furniture that is moved frequently, should have floor glides attached to the bottom of each leg to help to prevent scratching and wear. Do not wax the bottom of chair legs.

Commercial Floor Maintenance

Protect your floor

Place throw rugs in front of sinks and doors leading to the outside where heavy traffic and tracking occurs. However, do not do this until at least two weeks after the finish has been applied. Chairs, and any other furniture that is moved frequently, should have floor guides attached to the bottom of each leg to help prevent scratching and wear. Do not wax the bottom of chair legs.
Daily Dust Mopping or Vacuuming:
Most commercial floors are high use floors and should be dust mopped or vacuumed frequently throughout the day. This enables you to keep the floor clean and avoid potential damage from dirt, salt or stones brought in by heavy traffic. Dust mop treatments are acceptable, however, do not spray them directly on the floor. Recommended dust mops are: untreated, water-based treated, or a very, very light oil treated mop head. Do not overuse them. The cleaner your mop heads are, the cleaner your floor will be. A felt vacuum head is recommended for vacuuming.
Regular Cleaning:
Choose a good general maintenance cleaner, such as Basic Coating's Squeaky Cleaner, for high use floors. You should clean the floor regularly, or whenever the floor seems "slick".
Do Not Wax or Spray Buff!
In order to insure good performance of future coats, floors finished with Hydroline Wood Floor Finish or Street Shoe Commercial Finish should not be waxed or spray buffed. However, occasional buffing with a dry buffing pad under a high speed buffer will brighten the floors appearance by removing residue build-up. Be certain to clean with your general maintenance cleaner after buffing.
Maintenance Recoating:
Despite all of their advantages,Hydroline and Street Shoe will not last forever. It may be necessary to recoat in 12 to 18 months.
A commercial floor should be recoated when the original film is showing signs of wear but before the finish has worn down to the bare wood. Bare wood will be stained by dirt and grime and will need to be resanded. A wood floor professional should be consulted when recoat questions arise.
